How to patch jeans

A. Buy an iron-on patch big enough to cover the entire hole. Trim the patch with sharp scissors so it's about half an inch bigger than the hole in each direction

B. Position the patch over the hole and pin it to the jeans

C. Iron the patch on to the jeans (take care to follow ironing instructions from patch maker)

D. Using some strong cotton, thread a needle through and tie a knot so the thread doesn't pull itself through.

E. Reinforce the patch by folding the jeans level with one edge of the patch, whipstitch the edge of the patch to the jeans, making about 10 stitches per inch. Pull the needle up through the jeans and patch fabric with the needle at a slant, just a few threads from the edge. Loop the needle over the top of the edge to the back side of the jeans.

F. When the corner of patch is reached, refold the jeans and carry on stitching the next side of the patch. Repeat this until all sides are complete.

G. Finally tie a knot on the inside of the jeans. Cut off the extra thread close to the knot.
